Tips for April

  • Start a regular mowing schedule.
Mowing should be done on a regular basis. No more than a third of the leaf blades should be removed in any one mowing.
  • Water annuals and newly planted bed
Water as needed to maintain an even moisture level. Beds should never be soggy wet or bone dry between waterings.
  • Mulch all bare areas.
Mulching the exposed soil around plants should be done at planting and remulching should be done as any bare areas appear during the season.
  • Prune flowering shrubs after they have stopped blooming.
Flowering shrubs need to be pruned immediately after flowering, not later in the season, so that no damage will be done to stems forming the buds for the next year’s flower display.

Treatments for insect and disease should be applied only after pests are seen. Always choose environmentally safe alternatives t0 chemicals.
  • Don’t forget to feed the birds!
